Frontiers Friday #136. Release🪁⭕️
Anniversaries, new release, and things you should release into the world as an act of generosity.
Today, is the 3rd anniversary for the release of our book Better Results.
And just this week, the companion edited book The Field Guide to Betters Results is released!
I like the word release. The old French derivative “relaisser” means “to leave behind.” It means to “set free, alleviate, ease,” to let it go, to let it reach others who might take interest in the work.
When you make something and put it out to see if it resonates, it's bounded with fear and faith. It's risky. And trust grows from risk. Trust can only grow from risk.
It's usually a scary process to "release" something, anything, out into the world. But frankly, for this round, I'm less nerved. Not only because Scott Miller, Mark Hubble I and have a new co-editor, Sam Malins from the UK, who is an all-round smart and kind person, but we also have an arsenal of top-tiered researchers and practitioners who have contributed to the book.
It's like a book version of Coachella for therapists.

Why the Field Guide?
We addressed this in the book, but the short answer is that it's the TDPA's fault.
The Taxonomy for Deliberate Practice Activities Worksheets (Version 6. Chow & Miller, 2015, 217, 2019, 2022. Yep. We kept editing it) opened up a whole new dimension on how we can delineate the component parts of therapy, so that we can begin to work and improve on aspects once seemed like we can only tacitly approach..
Therapists who have read Better Results were asking us for more direction, ideas and strategies about various aspects of the TDPA.
The Field Guide was a response to that.
People like John Norcross, Joshua Swift, Jesse Owen and many more helped to in many ways to shine a light on the five parts of the TDPA.

Everyone’s Release
Let me put The Field Guide aside for a moment.
Speaking to people from all over, my sense is that many of you have something to say, something to share, and something to give.
Besides the usual barriers of time and space to do the things that matter, many of you realise that the element of “risk” is real.
It’s no coincidence, one of the great books on the topic of creativity is called, “Art and Fear.” Be it a book idea, setting up a blog post, creating youtube videos, etc.
Maybe it’s no coincidence that when you sit down at your computer, starring at the screen, the cursor is blinking and blinking at you—seemingly cursing at you on the blank page.
The art of creating something worthwhile is important, because this is an act of Gift-Giving. I would love to hear from more of you on what is something you are trying to put out into the world.

⏸ Words Worth Contemplating:
Bob Dylan: The world doesn’t need any more songs.
Interview: You don’t think so?
BD: No. They’ve got enough. They’ve got way too many. As a matter of fact, if nobody wrote any songs from this day on, the world ain’t gonna suffer from it. Nobody cares…
BD: Unless (emphasis mine) someone’s gonna come along with a pure heart and has something to say. That’s a different story.

What risks are you risk making?
