Frontiers Friday #12: Five Tips for Your Development
Frontiers of Psychotherapist Development
Frontiers Friday #12 Dispatch
This week, one new blog from the frontiers on creating a safe environment, and 4 other new words to add to your vocabulary. Though they are Japanese, I've found the concise beauty of turning verbs into a noun useful in my clinical work.
Wabi-Sabi
means to find beauty in the imperfect and simple things. I love the philosophy behind this. For more, read this article.
Karoshi
means "work yourself to death," literally. For more, see this BBC article.
Genchi genbutsu
means "go and see for yourself." This was popularised by Toyota. See this article.
Hikikomori
is a phenomena describing young men in urban cities like Japan, UK, Brazil, and US who withdraw from society. For more, see this BPS article.
RIP to Richard Simon.
Veteran editor for the Psychotherapy Networker—the only magazine I subscribe to—has passed away.
I first met Rich in Kansas City in 2010 when he gave a keynote. Some 10 years later, I was supposed to write an article for him about improving first sessions, and I totally fell into Zzz land while putting my kids to bed, and missing a call with him. I was so embarrassed, but he was kind and forgiving about it.
See Scott Miller's recent blog homage to Rich.
