Frontiers Friday #10: Five Tips for Your Development
Frontiers of Psychotherapist Development
Frontiers Friday #10 Dispatch
From My Desk: We Don't Know How to Rest.
Web-Read: The Backstory to The Gloria Films
If you have been schooled in counselling, chances are that you've watched the old tapes of Albert Ellis, Fritz Perls and Carl Rogers working with a woman by the name of Gloria, duped The Gloria Films.
Did you know the back story to this? Was she a real client? Have you ever wonder why the client ended up picking Perls as her therapist, must to the surprise of Rogers—and everyone else?
This article sheds some light into this.
(In future Frontiers Friday, I'd recommend a modern version of the Three Approaches to Psychotherapy video series).
Recommendation: World of Books.
Most of us buy books from Amazon or Book Depository (both owned by Amazon). Here's an alternative. World of Books. This UK company runs the business of selling books based on a circular economy that sells quality used books. (Free shipping!)
I don't know about you, but I quite enjoy getting a used version of a book. There's something special about knowing that this copy was read by someone else before.
Tech Tool: Readwise.
In the Deep Learner workshops, I stress the important of retrieval practice, that is, actively and periodically. What Readwise does is extract previous e-reading highlights. Though this is not exactly a form of retrieval practice, but the ability to pull out past highlights is one way to recall what was previously marked as important to you.
So instead of endlessly exploring new readings, exploiting what you've previously read and calling to mind these highlights has a surprising effect on integrating learning.
Words Worth Wondering:
"A wealth of information creates a poverty of attention."
~ Decision making cognitive scientist, Herbert Simon.
The Deliberate Practice Web-Based Workshop
We have kicked-off the first batch with 40 people around the world for this course. REALLY EXCITING as we learn about each other as a start and sharing about each of our "WHYs" that motivate us on this journey.
If you are interested for the next batch, drop us an email to be on the wait-list for this 10-week program.
The Achieving Better Results 2-Part Virtual Workshop
Next Friday, I'm doing a 2-part 3hr each intensive crash course on the topic of Achieving Better Results. As I was supposed to be in Denmark for this, most participants are from Scandinavia, but anyone from every part of the globe is welcome to join us.
