Tech Tip/Tool: Check Your Email Like a Snail Mail
I love my inbox. I love hearing from people. To me, I treat them as precious an old-school letter. I do my very best to respond to all (apologies to those that I've slipped).
But I think for most of us we have ended up using email as an instant messaging platform. For me, a large part the daily workflow is that we keep checking our emails. It is as if we interrupt our task and walk out to our letterbox every 30mins to see if "you've got mail."
Especially if you are doing telehealth therapy, my suggestion is to close your email application. Plus, remove notifications. It makes a huge difference on your level of flow and focus; your clients will appreciate the absence of "bings" and distractions. Check your emails like maybe twice a day.
If you are like me, reflexively checking your emails when you really don't need to, use an app blocker like Freedom. I've made a pre-commitment not to check my emails between 11pm to 12pm the next day. So no access to my inbox when I go to bed and in the mornings.
(An alternative to Freedom app is Cold Turkey. You might not believe this but, I use both. Yes, I can't trust my monkey mind).
Web-Read: 68-Bits of Unsolicited Advice
Kevin Kelly is amongst a few that I consider as a life-long mentor, even though I've never met him. So you can imagine when he released this 68 pieces of unsolicited advice on his 68th birthday, I was stoked.
Here's some of them:
"Pros are just amateurs who know how to gracefully recover from their mistakes.”
"A worthy goal for a year is to learn enough about a subject so that you can’t believe how ignorant you were a year earlier."
"Being enthusiastic is worth 25 IQ points."
"If you are not falling down occasionally, you are just coasting.”
“Rule of 3 in conversation. To get to the real reason, ask a person to go deeper than what they just said. Then again, and once more. The third time’s answer is close to the truth.”

(If you are interested in the the development of tech and it's implications on us, his book The Inevitable is a must-read.)
Psychotherapy Resource: Psychotherapy Networker
If you like to stay abreast with what's developing in the world of psychotherapy, especially from a practitioner's standpoint, I highly recommend Psychotherapy Networker.
Previously called the Family Therapy Networker, now affectionately known simply as the "Networker" by many, is the only magazine that I still subscribe to after many years. With Rich Simon at the editorial helm, the articles are very well crafted and useful.
Book Worm: Better Results
It's a bit shameless to recommend our own book in this segment, but the most recent Network magazine that arrived in my mail just yesterday had an ad by APA for a 30% off our book! Simply go to bks.apa.org/Better-Results and use the promo code: PN30. (Free US shipping).
p/s: tell me what you think of the amateur sketch notes across the book. I love to hear what you think.
