Frontiers Friday #7: Five Notes for Your Development

From My Desk: Outrospection
Perspective taking is never as powerful as perspective getting. Empathy is fueled more by outrospection, and less by introspection.
Tech Tool: Instapaper
I really dislike reading articles on mobile device web browser. Blogs and webpages are loaded with ads and clickbait. Very annoying.
What I do is I push any relevant web-reads into a small app called Instapaper. I can highlight and centralise all my notes from that article by "pushing" it into my Simplenote app. (I talked about this idea of "extending your mind" by centralising your notes in the course Deep Learner. To find out more, click here. Email me to be on the waitlist).
There are other similar apps, but Instapaper has stood the test of time for my use.
Web-Read: When Nones and Nuns Comes Together
A project called Nuns and Nones moved religion-free millennials into a convent.
From the article:
"'So many of the millennials would say, ‘I’m looking for rituals. I’m looking for rituals to work in my lesbian community or social justice or I need rituals for this other thing,' Sister Carle said. One young woman wanted ritual so much that she started going to Mass every morning."
Why is this relevant in Frontiers?
Think about the lack of rituals in our modernity, and how we can make room for this, especially for clients who are going through transitions/life-quake moments.Documentary: My Octopus Teacher
I'm fascinated by this Netflix documentary. This relates to a field of study called Biomimcry, which provides a way of thinking on how we can learn from the natural sciences.
Global Relevance: Covid experts: There is a Better Way to Respond
It's not like we don't have enough news about the pandemic already. This one is important.
Three eminent epidemiologists met in Massachusetts to plan a better response to the pandemic.
To read my key grafs from their interview, see my simplenotes.
Why is this relevant in Frontiers:
- Learn to appreciate the "dissenting" voices who challenge convention wisdom.
- Taking perspective of what public health really means.
- implications for your clients who highly anxious about COVID-19.
A cumulation of a decade-long of work that has led Scott and I to this...
