Frontiers Friday #5: Five Notes for Your Development
Frontiers of Psychotherapist Development
Frontiers Friday #5 Dispatch
The last 2 out of 3 webinars on the Insider's Group of Better Results:
Some months ago, Scott Miller and I did an exclusive 3 part webinar for the first 100 people who pre-ordered the Better Results book. Now made available to all, here's the last 2 parts out of 3!!
In Part 1, we talked about the "behind the scenes," making of the book
In Part 2, we addressed the topic about how to get started with deliberate practice, spending a fair bit of time on how to establishing your baseline performance level, and how to identify random vs "non-random" errors
In Part 3, we talked about talk about the steps for creating a sustainable deliberate practice plan, and some of our speculations where this notion of deliberate practice might be heading in the future.
Tell us what you think in the comments of each of the videos.
From My Desk: "It's Not About You."
One of the not so good advice to give to someone who is rehearsing for a speech is to practice in front of a mirror. So what do we focus on?
Bookworm: How to Help A Suicidal Person
Stay in the mental health profession long enough, and you are bound to work with someone who is suicidal. This book by Stacey Freedenthal is very practically written. Each chapter is concise and to the point. A highly recommended read.
(note: This is an Amazon affiliate link. A few cents goes to the Frontiers to keep me caffeinated).
Earworm: Alanis Morrisette new album in 8 years.
I started to tune back in to what Alanis Morrisette's been doing all these years after watching her on a documentary on Highly Sensitive Persons. (Based on the work of Elaine Aron...Very good documentary by the way).
She appears (virtual) live on Jimmy Fallon and sings a new song about her kids called Ablaze... carrying her daughter throughout the performance!
Tech Tool: Trello
There's no other better way to say it, but I LOVVVE Trello.
I've been using Trello as a platform to organise my various projects for years. It is so easy to use, and yet highly agile. A rare combination.
For more advanced users, you can even create little bots (they called them Butlers) to assign repeatable tasks, like duplicating a card. If you are looking for a platform to help organise all the different stuff on your plate, Trello's worth checking out. (Note: I've been using the free version all these years, and I'm not affiliated with Trello).
Stay Tuned Next Week for Something Special :)
Over the last several months, Scott Miller and I have been hatching a plot to release a highly individualised learning program for those of you who want to use deliberate practice to achieve better results.
We will be releasing the registration in honor of WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY. Stay tuned.
