Frontiers Friday #3: Five Notes for Your Development
Frontiers of Psychotherapist Development
Frontiers Friday (#3F2) Dispatch
Facebook Live with Curt & Katie:
Here's the facebook live chat I had with 2 superstars, Katie Vernoy and Curt Widhalm...We talked about some tiny things we can tweak in our education and professional development as psychotherapists, an entree to the keynote next Friday at the cutting edge conference, Therapy Reimagined happening next week.. Join us! (See discount codes below).
Funny aside: I completely lost my voice after this conversation. This might explain the slightly Rod Stewart timbre in my voice in the video.
By the way, if you haven't yet heard Curt and Katie's podcast, The Modern Therapist's Survival Guide, you should! Lots of gems in their catalogue.
The Difficult Conversations in Therapy (DCT) Videos
Some of you might know, my colleagues and I have been banging the drum with the DCT studies since 2014. We have completed 2 studies on this, and believe it or not, even though Adam Jones wrote his thesis based on our dataset, we are still in the midst of completing the manuscript for peer review! I want to get a pre-print to people on the Frontiers, so that you'd be the first to see the results.
But for now, here's the youtube playlist of the videos that were professionally recorded (except the first video that was home-brewed. Big thanks to Lynn Tan for acting as the now famous "Angry Annie" .
Note: There is nothing magical about such video vignettes. The results of the DCT clinical trials suggest that the quality of any deep learning is largely determined by the quality of the feedback.
Stay tuned for the pre-print of the study!
"Webcomendations": Ask Nature
I've been a huge fan of Janine Benyus work in Biomimcry. The basic tenet of biommimcry is to learn from and mimic the strategies found in nature to solve human design challenges—and find hope along the way.
This week, I discovered this website AskNature. It looks terrific!
For more, check out a playlist I've compiled over the years on biomimicry.
Question: What can we learn from the field of biomimicry that can help us learn how to create healing conversations in therapy?
Soul Sounds: Phoebe Bridgers
If you haven't heard of the young and prolific singer songwriter, Phoebe Bridgers you'd have to check her out. Here's a recent NPR Tiny Desk (from home) performance (Playing at the White House? Watch till the end!). The next time you work with a youth, you can say to them, check out this singer! They'd be impressed.
Words Worth Wondering:
Unhealthy peace can be worse than healthy conflict.
