Frontiers of Psychotherapist Development Tiny May'20 Newsletter
TODAY IS LAUNCH DAY.Â
In 2014, I'm sitting with Scott Miller for lunch midway through an intensive training in Chicago, hatching some rough outline for this book. We had the good company of Julie Tilsen and good burgers.
We had already been toying with the ideas via numerous nighttime Skype calls. At that time, I didn't think we would see the light of day for this project.Â
Scott et al. had already written a seminal Psychotherapy Networker article on Supershrinks some years prior, and in 2010, my family and I uprooted from Singapore to move to Australia, leaving behind full-time employment to do a long doctoral meditation, and thankfully completed the first study of deliberate practice in psychotherapy....
And here we are, 26th of May, 2020. It's Launch Day.Â
Banded together with Mark Hubble, the true bass man of our team (you feel his presence more than you see him), we toiled over the last few years, chipping away at this book, BETTER RESULTS: USING DELIBERATE PRACTICE TO IMPROVE THERAPEUTIC EFFECTIVENESS.
I'm thankful to be part of this. I mean, I was only a lowly student in 2003 when I first encountered Mark's and Scott's work in the dusty libraryshelf in Queensland. They quickly became my intellectual heroes.Â
I hope you find Better Results useful, especially in improving our work for those we strive to help.
p/s: if you buy the book from our publisher, APA has offered a 30% discount if you buy it directly from them (Perhaps this makes sense if you are in the US?) Use the time limited promo code BR30 at APA's website (expires June 15 2020).
Â
Stay Tuned. We have a companion workbook we are gifting to our readers.
Thanks for being part of Frontiers of Psychotherapist Development (FPD). I've been quiet on this front over the last month or so. I've been taking care of my practice, consulting with individuals and teams, and engaging with of the community in the Deep Learner web-based workshop. There's just so much noise going on in social feeds. The last thing I want is to overcrowd you. But if you are interested, more to come in the coming weeks in terms of blogs and podcast! (And no hard feelings if this isn't for you. Just click "unsubscribe" below. Save yourself the future hassle of deleting more emails). If you are new on the Frontiers, big warm welcome! Feel free to go through our archives on some of my favorite topics: Deliberate Practice First Principles Clinical Supervision Reimagining Education in Psychotherapy Persaonlised Learning Self-Care We are living in liminal times. May we let go of old norms and cross this threshold anew.
 Blessings,
Daryl Chow, Ph.D.
