Frontiers Newsletter Apr-May'18
I hope you have been keeping well.
Sorry for the miss-out of April's newsletter, . So much was happening in the last two months:
1. Excellence in Private Practice: We've just completed multiple two-day intensive training in Australia, Excellence in Private Practice. What a treat to work with Dr Aaron Frost and Kaye Frankcom. And to those whom we had a follow-up consult with, we share your passion and comitment to raise the bar in our profession.
2. Achieving Clinical Excellence (ACE) Conference: What a treat to speak at this wonderfully organised event. Big thanks to the organisers, Niklas Waitong and team. I also want to thank the Scandinavian participants for making me (the Asian dude) feel so welcomed.
3. A New Birth... A Book!
Over the last couple of months, I've been working frantically to see the completion of a forthcoming book, The First Kiss: Undoing the Intake Model and Igniting the First Sessions in Psychotherapy. This is going to hit the press in a month or so. (Participants of the Reigniting Clinical Supervision will receive this ebook for free!)
4. The Difficult Conversations in Therapy: After more than 1.5yrs, this clinical trial has just been completed! Yay! Big thanks to Dr Sharon Lu, Dr Geoff Tan, Tammie, and Scott Miller! You will be the first to know the final results once we've crunched the numbers.
5. A New Couples Naturalistic Study: Turns out, the alliance in couples treatment is more nuanced than expected...Stay tuned! (Big thanks to Jesse Owen and the team at Eagles Mediation Counselling Centre, Singapore for the collaboration).
6. SEPI Newsletter: Thanks to Alexandre Vaz, the Society for the Exploration of Psychotherapy Integration has put forth a stellar edition! Featuring luminaries in our field, from Irvin Yalom, Bruce Wampold, Michael Ronnestad, Robert L. Leahy, Patricia Coughlin. I'm grateful to play a small part of this. Check it out.
7. A New Book! Scott Miller, Mark Hubble, I have been hard at work on an APA book, Better Results: A Step-by-Step Guide to Deliberate Practice. This one's dear to me... and I get to work with two people that I admire so much! ~~~ Europe's GDPR dominated lots of email lists over the last few weeks. Please feel free to unsubscribe if you do not feel like FPD is adding life to your professional development.
If you've decided that Frontiers can truly add value to you and your work, please continue to read the rest of this newsletter, and continue to receive our (almost) weekly blogposts.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Tools and resources that you can use.
Every month, I'd provide you five tools/resources that I've used and found it to be helpful in my learning process, productivity, or just plain useful.
1. Psychotherapy in Existential Action!
When you hear the following titles, who comes to mind? Love's Executioner, Group Psychotherapy, The Gift of Therapy, Starring at the Sun?
(Nearly every therapist I know has The Gift of Therapy).
That's right. He's none other than Dr. Irvin D. Yalom.
I have longed to see him work in therapy. His son, Victor Yalom, leader of Psychotherapy.net, has put together, for the first time, an inside look into how Irv Yalom works in therapy! As soon as it was released, I purchased the download version of the videos! What a delight. And you get to hear father and son converse about three different client sessions!
This is not to be missed. Click HERE to check it out.
2. ACE Conference Videos: Not to worry if you've missed the ACE conference in Sweden. You can view conference online! Make sure you listen to my colleague from Norway, Birgit Villa's keynote. And make sure you watch Danish Susanne Bargmann and her coach Erik Ulrik Elholm take the stage!
You can read about the event in this Norwegian publication. Copy and paste the text to google translate.
At the end of my presentation, I provide a special URL for you to download materials given to you for free.
3. Boxcryptor: Did you know that you can add an additional layer of security to your dropbox? Check out this piece of nifty security software. I'm testing it out currently.
4. MacPaw Hider 2: Ok, as you can tell, I take security quite seriously. Given that I store client's information on my system, I would need to do my best to ensure safety and security. Armed w a AES-256 Encryption (I hear you say, "what's that?" Not to worry. It just means very good level of encryption; hard to hack into), MacPaw Hider 2 is my tool of choice.
Very easy to use. (Only for Macs though. I'm sure there are equivalent for windows. Check out this article.
5. Free Chapter! Our chapter in the edited book, Cycle of Excellence (2017) is avaiable for your preview. Go to Scott Miller's website to request for our chapter, Professional Development: From Oxymoron to Reality.
(Note: I am an affiliate with psychotherapy.net. This means I earn a small commission if you make a purchase of the Irvin Yalom's video)
Let me know if you found this useful or not. If folks like this, more stuff to come!

One of the highlights for me each year is running this highly intensive and content-rich course with my mentor and collaborator, Scott Miller.
