The Beginning of Something Good
At the Beginning of Something Good
Hey ,
If you are like me, this christmas & new year season is a time where you look back and look forward. So for just a moment, take pause and see this brilliant comic by Scott Adams, Dilbert:
Four-on-Floor Resources:
Here's some recent blogposts, websites, and podcasts that will pique your interest:
1. Life is Full and Life has Space: great New York Times articles on making room for life.
2. Freakonomics podcast on deliberate practice: One of my favorite podcasts. Well produced. This episode, features my friend and colleague of ICCE, Susanne Bargmann! And of course, K Anders Ericsson is in this. Well worth the listen (I spend a lot of time in the car. Podcasts are my typical companion. I use an app called downcast to manage the various stuff).
3. On Time Management: Here's an intriguing recent ted talk by time management guru, Lauren Vanderkam. She makes a bloody convincing argument. But I'm not sold. Here's why. I think there's only so much you can do with time management. Time is finite. I think the more important thing is energy management. Energy is renewable. This is not my idea. Check out this book, The Power of Full Engagement by Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz. Despite the cheesy title, I highly recommend it. I think at times free time so be, well, free. See The Gilbert comic above again.
4. BPS Newsletter: I'd break the rule and promote another newsletter. If you love staying on top of cutting edge research, subscribe to the British Psychological Society research digest. It's brilliant. (sorry APS). I admire them for being vocal against the DSM-5. Read their open letter to the DSM-5 Taskforce
Events:
1. Hosted by the Eagles Mediation Counselling Centre (EMCC), I'd be running two workshops in Singapore in May 2017, titled, Three Steps to Becoming Your Personal Best in Psychotherapy, and Beyond Measures in Psychotherapy: Taking Your Personal Best to the Next Level. If you are keen, reach out to Joline from EMCC, joline@emcc.org.sg . If you are coming from overseas, I assure you, there's lots to shop, walk, and entertain in the smallest country in the world.
2. Scott Miller and I are working out if we can bring the FIT intensive courses (FIT advanced, supervision, FIT for agencies that we run in Chicago to Australia, come 2017. Stay tuned once we get confirmation on this. Let me know if you might be keen on this, especially if flying to Chicago is not feasible for you, and you wanna attend this in Australia.
Til then, Happy New Year to you my friends. Please stay in touch. I hate marketing, but I love connecting. Reach me at daryl@darylchow.com
p/s: Resist the urge to make new year resolutions, especially about your professional development plans. Make Monthly or even weekly plans. Then Make it visible. And close the loop at each time.
Blessings,
Daryl Chow, PhD
